Advantages of Motability Car Scheme:
The Motability Car Scheme is designed to help people with disabilities to stay mobile. If you have a disability that qualifies you for the Higher Rate Mobility Component of DLA, or the War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement, and you have more than one year left on your award, then you qualify for the Motability Coventry Car Scheme.
What about non-drivers?
Anyone aged three or older who is in receipt of the correct benefits, who has one year on their award, will qualify for the scheme. If the qualifying recipient does not have a driver's license, for whatever reason, then they can nominate up to two drivers that can use their car for them.
For insurance reasons, only those named on the insurance certificate are permitted to drive the car. However, the person who the car is for does not have to be a passenger in the car at all times. As long as the journey is to benefit that person, the designated driver can take the car out by themselves.
What does the scheme offer?
The scheme offers a loan of a brand new car for up to three years, along with insurance for the car, breakdown cover, the annual car tax, regular servicing, and replacement tyres. The recipient will need to pay for petrol, parking costs, and other small day-to-day costs, but all of the major expenses and paperwork are taken care of out of the mobility award payments. Some of the cars under the scheme require an Advance Payment before you can get them. If the car that you would like to lease is one of those, and you feel that you may not be able to afford the payments, then you should speak to your local dealer. They may be able to offer financial aid to help you with the Advance Payment.
