If you have a disability that greatly affects your mobility, and are in receipt of the Higher Rate of the mobility payment part of DLA, or the equivalent benefit for war pensioners, then you may qualify for a car under the Motability Car Scheme.
Under the scheme, you can lease a new car for up to three years. When your lease ends, your dealer will contact you to arrange a new lease. You need at least one year left on your mobility related allowance to qualify to join the scheme.
The Motability Car Scheme covers all the major expenses of your car. The scheme will deduct some money from your mobility related allowance payment, and for that you will get the lease of a car that is insured and taxed. You will also have breakdown cover, and the car will be regularly serviced and maintained.
If you are not able to drive, then you may still be able to make use of the Motability Car Scheme. You can nominate up to two people that you would like to be able to use your vehicle. You should choose those people carefully, however, as only nominated drivers are permitted to use the vehicle, for insurance reasons.
The Motability Car Scheme makes a lot of sense for people who feel that they need to run a car. It can be a lot less expensive, and a lot less hassle, than purchasing and maintaining a family car - especially if your existing car is old and prone to breaking down.
There are Motability dealers all over the country. If you are interested in taking advantage of the scheme, just contact your local dealer to make an appointment with a Motability Liverpool Dealer. They will be happy to explain the scheme in detail and arrange for test drives, etc.
