Under the Motability car scheme, beneficiaries don’t pay VAT on the cost of hiring the car. Cars are modified at no extra costs for the physically impaired under the Wheelchair Access Cars option. You may also assign up to two drivers complete with all the necessary insurance covers. Your DLV is used to go to pay for the vehicle which covers a brand new vehicle that you can renew every three years.

The lease terms can be substituted for hire purchase terms. In this arrangement, beneficiaries pay a certain amount for the duration of the contract after which they assume ownership of the car. But all the benefits listed in the lease plan are not available in hire purchase. The insurance and personal cover will not be available - same goes for the free maintenance and new car after every three years.  The tyre replacement and breakdown services will also be your responsibility.
